CODE ENFORCEMENT INSPECTION GETS SYNTHETIC MARIJUANA OFF BROCKTON STREETS
July 22, 2016 (Brockton, MA) A joint operation between the Brockton Board of Health and Brockton Police resulted in the seizure of 119 bags of synthetic marijuana, weighing more than 20 ounces from a local convenience store.
Health inspectors along with Brockton Police Officers led by Sergeant Will Schlieman, the Brockton PD code enforcement liaison, conducted a safety inspection at Montello Express Gas and King Fried Chicken around 3:45 yesterday afternoon.
Mayor Bill Carpenter directed the coordinated code enforcement action in response to numerous complaints about the illegal sale of synthetic marijuana, also known as K-2 or Spice at both 158 Montello Street locations.
“We will aggressively enforce all ordinances and regulations to protect the public from these dangerous substances. Today’s action should send a clear message to all establishments in Brockton that we will not tolerate the sale of synthetic drugs,” said Mayor Carpenter.
As a result of the inspection, investigators found the establishment was in violation of the Brockton Board of Health Regulation 2013-1. Today, the Board of Health has revoked the following licenses to owner Haji I. Ahmad for a period of 630 days (30 days x 21 offenses).
Market Food Permit No. 017198 (Montello Express)
Restaurant Food Permit No. 017125 (King Fried Chicken)
Milk License No. 011118 (Montello Express)
Wood or Methyl Alcohol License, issued 1/11/16 (Montello Express)
License for location of Tobacco Sales No. 2015-2016 (Montello Express)
Mr. Ahmad is also fined $6,300.00 ($300 x 21 offenses).
“We are extremely pleased that we could aid the Board of Health in keeping illegal drugs like synthetic marijuana off the streets,” said Brockton Police Chief John Crowley.
In addition to the drugs, inspectors found 717 illegal (bootleg) DVD’s and 96 CD’s along with more than 800 dollars in cash. BPD Sgt. Will Schlieman stated that multiple criminal charges will be brought in connection with the illegal DVD’s and CD’s.
